Prayer Changes Things

what did the altar of incense look like? | kdmanestreet

Prayer Changes Things

Eph 6:18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Eph 6:19  And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
Eph 6:20  For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

There are four main types of prayer found within the scriptures:
1.     Confession-Repentance
2.     Supplication
3.     Adoration with Thanksgiving
4.     Intercession

Is it any wonder that we find four elements in the recipe for the incense at the golden altar?

Exo 30:34  And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum; these sweet spices with pure frankincense: of each shall there be a like weight:
Exo 30:35  And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy:
Exo 30:36  And thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee: it shall be unto you most holy.
Exo 30:37  And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the LORD.
Exo 30:38  Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.
Sweet Spices
1.     Stacte
2.     Onycha
3.     Galbanum
4.     Frankincense

They were to be of equal weight- one was not important than another, but it is interesting that no measure is given other than equal meaning that make as much as you want you cannot make too much. You cannot find people who pray too much, but you can find people who do not pray enough.

What is Nataf (Stacte), the ancient ingredient used by Jewish ...
Stacte- Nataf- sweet smelling words (Adoration and Thanksgiving)

Qetoret : Solomon's incense — The Perfume Chronicles
Onycha- destruction by striking (ancient Hebrew), Briggs Driver- peeling off through concussion-intercession

What is Galbanum and How Does it Smell?
Galbanum- choicest, or the rich part, the best, like the fat of the animal was burnt (excess) (confession)

Frankincense Sacra Essential Oil (Oman)-EOFrScraFrankincense frereana Essential Oil, 1 mL Sample-EOFrFrn-1mL
Boswellia (Frankincense) sarca tree (supplication)       Frankincense- white must be drawn out of the the tree over a period of several days.

Psa 141:2  Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

1.     Confession- to disclose one’s sins and faults to God.

A sinner cannot have a break though in prayer until he first acknowledges his sins and turns from them (Ps 66:18)

David said:

Psa 66:18

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Again:
Psa 32:3  When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long.
Psa 32:4  For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.
Psa 32:5  I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
Confession is admitting that we have done evil (wrong), wickedness in the eyes of God and have sinned (fallen short like an arrow misses the mark), and asking for forgiveness through the offering of sacrifice God has provided Jesus Christ his Son.

The apostle John says:
1Jn 1:8  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1Jn 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1Jn 1:10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

An example of this is found in the gospel of Luke 18:10-14

Luk 18:9  And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Luk 18:10  Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Luk 18:11  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Luk 18:12  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Luk 18:13  And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Luk 18:14  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
It is essential we come before God in a spirit of humility and not as this Pharisee (righteous one) did.

Jas 4:6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Pro 3:34  Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Isa 57:15

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Psa 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

2.     Supplication-  to ask earnestly and humbly

Luk 11:5  And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
Luk 11:6  For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
Luk 11:7  And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
Luk 11:8  I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
Luk 11:9  And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Luk 11:10  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Luk 11:11  If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Luk 11:12  Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
Luk 11:13  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

We are not just asking our friend but our Father

Act 1:14

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Preserve- to persist in a state, enterprise or undertaking in spite of counter influences, or opposition

To persist in any business or enterprise undertaken; to pursue steadily any design or course commenced; not to give over or abandon what is undertaken; applied alike to good and evil.

For us to receive anything from God we must be in prayer and supplication for one another
A.   Prayer's fruit  (product) is unity in the Spirit- holiness and the mind of Christ
B.    We must to continue praying in the Spirit one for another

Eph 6:18

 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Paul said:
Php 1:3  I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Php 1:4  Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
Php 1:5  For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
Php 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Jude (Judah) said:
Jud 1:19  These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
Jud 1:20  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Jud 1:21  Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Edify- build or establish, to instruct or improve in moral and religious knowledge i.e.word, enlighten
When we pray in the Spirit it not only strengthens us, but it brings revelation from God.

Rom 8:26

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Rom 8:27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to hispurpose.

Rom 14:19

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Faliure to pray one for another is sinful and is a sin of omission
1Sa 12:22  For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.
1Sa 12:23  Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

2Co 12:19

Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak (pray) before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

3.     Thanksgiving- the act of giving thanks, a prayer expressing graditude, a public acknowledging or celebration of divine goodness

We must learn to be thankful in every situation!

Psa 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Isa 26:2

Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in.

We enter his presence with Praise and Thanksgiving

Psa 18:49

Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

Paul said:
Eph 5:17  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Eph 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Eph 5:19  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Eph 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Psa 34:1  A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.  I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Even in the worst of times, when all seems against us, and God seems distant!

1Pe 2:5

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving in our prayers is sometime a sacrifice that is painful, it is giving time to God in complete surrender to his will, just as Jesus gave himself to prayer and sacrifice upon the cross.

1Th 5:16  Rejoice evermore.
1Th 5:17  Pray without ceasing.
1Th 5:18  In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Th 5:19  Quench not the Spirit.

4.     Intercession- prayer, petition, or entreaty in favor for another.

Mat 18:18  Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Mat 18:19  Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 18:20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Intercession is powerful, this is why Christians should gather together for prayer services!

One can put a thousand to flight and two ten thousand!

2Co 10:3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2Co 10:4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Here are some examples of intercessory prayer in the scriptures:

1.     Moses  prayed with his arms up on the mountain and Joshua smote Amalek with the sword with the Children of Israel, Paul asks prayer for himself that the gospel might go forth and that he might have boldness (Eph 6:18).

e.g. Moses interceded for Israel after the calf, Elijah at Mt. Horeb

2.     Hannah saw the breach of the ministry (Eli-and his two sons and the need for a holy prophet and priest to stand in the gap I Sam 1-3

3.     Aaron interceded for the people (Korah's Rebellion fall out)

Num 16:41  But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.
Num 16:42  And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
Num 16:43  And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
Num 16:44  And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Num 16:45  Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
Num 16:46  And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Num 16:47  And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
Num 16:48  And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
Num 16:49  Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
Num 16:50  And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

God is looking for men and women to intercede and stand in the gap (Ezk 22:30)!
4.     Esther – intercede for her people through prayer and fasting and prayer changed things and caused her adversary's plans to backfire.

5.     Nineveh the capital city of Assyria was spared for an hundred years because the people and the king repented.

6.     Peter was delivered from  Prison, though the church did not believe in their prayers, and shut the door on their answer.

7.     Zacharias in the Temple interceded for a prophet much like Hannah:
Luk 1:5  There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name wasElisabeth.
Luk 1:6  And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Luk 1:7  And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
Luk 1:8  And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,
Luk 1:9  According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
Luk 1:10  And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.
Luk 1:11  And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
Luk 1:12  And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
Luk 1:13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Luk 1:14  And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
Luk 1:15  For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
Luk 1:16  And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
Luk 1:17  And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Luk 1:18  And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.
Luk 1:19  And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
Luk 1:20  And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
Luk 1:21  And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.
Luk 1:22  And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

Notice the similarity in Revelation to Zacharias.

8.     Revelation 8 Judgment on Sin
Rev 8:1  And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
Rev 8:2  And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
Rev 8:3  And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
Rev 8:4  And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
Rev 8:5  And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

Mat 21:21  Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do thiswhich is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
Mat 21:22  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Joh 14:13  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Prayer Changes things…

If you have never accepted or if you have fallen away from Jesus Christ here are three steps you need to take to be saved:

Image result for abc's of salvation

You must admit you are a sinner, confess your sin to Jesus, repent (turn from all you know is wrong), ask Jesus to come in your heart, and begin to follow Jesus by reading and obeying his word and go to a bible believing church that teaches his word. And tell someone what Christ Jesus Has Done For You (Rev 12:10)
May God through Christ bless you!
