Sanctification Reviewed:"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour" (1Thess, 4:3, 4), "Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate" (Heb, 13:12)

Holiness is the result of sanctification, Sanctification will enable the disciple of Christ to deny ungodly and worldly lusts, the early Church upheld the doctrine of sanctification and holiness. Paul wrote his Corinthian letter to "them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints…” Leaving Miletus, Paul commended the brethren to God, who would give to them an inheritance among all that were sanctified (Acts 20:32). Peter preached holiness in conversation and conduct because it is written, "Be ye holy for I am holy" (1 Pet, 1:15, 16).

The doctrine of the early Church must be the doctrine of the church of God today.

"As he is, so are we in this world" (1 John 4:17), As he is (Holy), so are we (holy) in THIS World

"I do always those things that please him" (John 8:29),

"I have overcome the world" (John 16:33) "I am not of the world" (John 17:14), "Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified.,," (John 10:36),

"And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might he sanctified through the truth" (John 17:19),

SANCTIFICATION
The born-again experience resolves only that portion of the sin problem regarding acts of sin, and sin's penalty—death!

Sanctification is the act of setting apart, consecrating, and cleansing
1. (Gensis 2:3)
2. (Leviticus 8:12)
3. (Exodus 19:10)

Sanctification is a separation/consecration, but the cleansing is no longer symbolic, God sanctified Jesus prior to the incarnation by setting Him apart in consecration to be the Saviour of the world, but a cleansing was not included (John 10:36). (Read John 17:9-21,)

The disciples heard Jesus pray for their sanctification through the (Word) truth. Such is in
harmony with Paul's words that Jesus will, "…sanctify and cleanse it [the Church] with the washing of the water by the word" (Ephesians 5:26).

Man's need for personal sanctification of purging/cleansing is based on the cause for transgressions: the inherited adamic nature, It is God's will that all who are saved by grace be sanctified.

"For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour" (1Thess, 4:3, 4),

"Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate" (Heb, 13:12),

Jesus is our sanctification through His shed blood. The symbolic washings, sprinklings, and blood of atonement under the old covenant are fulfilled in the sanctifying power of the blood of Christ. In the new covenant, sanctification's "cleansing" is an experience! Unlike born again, this "experience" is not in asking for, and receiving forgiveness; but it is a second definite work of grace, By one act of faith the blood of Christ, by the power of the Holy Ghost, eradicates the adamic nature from the heart,

Sanctification is the internal cleansing, a second definite work of grace for the purpose of preparing the disciple of Christ to receive the baptism with the Holy Ghost.

A few analogies can possibly help the reader in understanding this truth, first when I was a child my grandfather would make me weed the garden before going swimming during the summer. I remember when I would get in a hurry and pull the tops of the weeds off to be able to go on my way, my grandfather would ask me, "Son did you pull up the root? Of course he would smile and in just a few days I was out weeding the same area because I had not spent enough time on my knees getting the root.
Job 14:7  For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

Job 14:8  Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
Job 14:9  Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Consider a peace treaty (Rom 5:1), if two parties accept the treaty to stop war, if the issue that caused the war in not fixed, and removed, the war will only begin again (Rom 6:7, John 8:32).

Looking into the bible consider Ishmael the older brother born by the will of the flesh (1st born-carnal nature) when he began to mock Isaac (2nd born- by the Spirit-regeneration). Sarah said that if he was not put out of the home he would one day kill her son. The removal of Ishmael from Abraham home is a picture of sanctification. Can the reader not see the tears following down the cheeks of Abraham as his son was sent away...Sanctification is painful, Jesus showed his followers this in the garden when he declared "not my WILL, but THY WILL BE DONE" in the garden as he sweat great drops of blood on his knees. Whatever relationship, thing, action that brings one into temptation should be put away to keep the peace of God.

If you have never accepted Jesus Christ here are three steps you need to take to be saved:

You must admit you are a sinner, confess your sin to Jesus, repent (turn from all you know is wrong), ask Jesus to come in your heart, and begin to follow Jesus by reading and obeying his word and go to a bible believing church that teaches his word. And Tell Someone What Christ Jesus Has Done For You (Rev 12:10)
May God through Christ bless you!

  1. Yes...gotta get the roots! It all comes back worse when you don't. Quick, unfelt apologies don't get the roots. Hasty surface fixes don't last. Going along to get along doesn't get it. Lord help us to go to the root!
