Signs and Miracles Should Follow Believers
Signs Follow Believers
With the baptism of the
Holy Ghost, the believer receives the source of spiritual power. When the
believer proclaims the message of Jesus Christ there are certain by-products of
his salvation and message that just naturally follow. Jesus stated,
And these signs shall follow them that believe:
In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they
shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt
them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17,
18).
These signs will “follow
the ministry of the Word until the work of the church of God is finished and
Jesus comes to receive (her) as His Bride.” These signs were manifested in the
ministry of Jesus, in the ministry of the early church, and in the ministry of
the church today. The Bible clearly teaches that signs will follow believers in
this day (Matt 28:20), even as they followed believers in the early church.
Many millions who have been saved, have been sanctified, and received the Holy
Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit
gives the utterance. But tongues without holiness of life (John 15:10) is just
noise (1 Cor. 13:1). Devils (demons) still possess people today as they did in Bible
times, many people who dabble with witchcraft, seances (contacting the dead)
through fortune tellers or mediums even sometimes just for fun have been
possessed with devils. The movie, The Exorcist,
though spruced up by Hollywood is a true story about a boy who was devil
possessed through the use of an Ouija board. God has provided power through
holiness to remove devils out of bound individuals lives by the power of his
(Holy) Spirit and Word. Some have taken up serpents (rattlesnakes), literally
to show their obedience to God, but Jesus was not commanding us to tempt God,
but rather as when on missions as Paul did he shook off the deadly viper into
the fire that struck him as he started a fire in Melitia after being
shipwrecked (Acts 28:1-6). Moreover, if a minister is attempting to spread the
gospel, and someone who is inclined to evil were to attempt to poison his food
or drink, the Lord promises to protect his minsters by sanctifying it through
their prayers if the minister is unawares of Satan’s attack.
Healing is provided for in the atonement of Jesus (Isa. 53:4-5), and still happens for people today as it did in the early church. Why some are not healed and others are is a question only God can answer, but laying on of hands and anointing with oil is the method that the Bible teaches for believers to be healed (James 5:14-15). I have been healed personally, and have seen dozens of others who have been as well!
The power of the Holy
Ghost in the life of the individual not only provides for signs to follow but
also for the ultimate fruition of the “fruit of the Spirit.” When a sinner is
regenerated, the Holy Ghost implants the seed of salvation to come forth in the
new birth. This seed of salvation must be cultivated through yielding to the
Spirit until the experiences of sanctification and the baptism of the Holy
Ghost usher forth the full growth of the fruit of the Spirit.
The full growth of the
fruit of the Spirit are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith, meekness, temperance (Gal. 5:21-22). These virtues are products of a
spirit-filled-life. Jesus stated, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you
in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them
by their fruit. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so
every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth
evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt
tree bring forth good fruit” (Matthew 7:15-18).
The Spirit-filled,
sanctified believer can bring forth nothing but the fruit of the Spirit. They
are the distinguishing marks of the true disciple of Christ. Many today in Christianity
want to see more demonstrations of the power of God, which is a good thing, but
for God to work there must be clean vessels to operate through. There is also a
desire by Satan to confuse believers to follow after signs for confirmation of
their beliefs. For believers in Christ we must be anchored in the Word of God
through study, prayer, reading, teaching, and living out what the gospel says.
Satan will produce signs and wonders that the whole world will chase after and
eventually be dammed (Revelation 13). Every spiritual experience must stand up
to the scrutiny of the Word of God (Read entire chapter 2 Peter 1). Some have denounced all spiritual
manifestation as evil due to confusion from these false prophets and teachers
(2 Peter 2), but that is Satan’s goal to imitate God’s signs and wonders. Satan
cannot imitate true holiness ( true charity, love for God and one’s neighbor as
ourself). SO LOVE GOD AND FOLLOW HIS
WORD AND THESE SIGNS WILL FOLLOW YOU!
If you have never accepted or if you have fallen away from Jesus Christ here are three steps you need to take to be saved:
You must admit you are a sinner, confess your sin to Jesus, repent (turn from all you know is wrong), ask Jesus to come in your heart, and begin to follow Jesus by reading and obeying his word and go to a bible believing church that teaches his word. And tell someone what Christ Jesus Has Done For You (Rev 12:10)
May God through Christ bless you!
